Via Assembleia Mundial pela Amazônia

On March 25, the World Assembly for the Amazon (AMA) sent a letter to Secretary John F. Kerry, U.S. President Joe Biden’s special envoy for climate change, requesting a virtual meeting with a delegation from the AMA. The purpose of the meeting is to learn about the proposals being considered by the Biden administration in relation to the Amazon, and at the same time to present the central proposals of the “Plan for Life”.

The “Plan for Life” is a plan of action that the Amazonian peoples, social, women’s, environmental, religious and human rights organizations, and defenders of human rights and the rights of nature, agreed upon during the virtual event “The cry of the jungle: Voices of the Amazon”, which took place last February.

It is expected that this meeting, if confirmed, will be held prior to the summit to address climate change being convened by Joe Biden.

The letter was signed by representatives of the Coordinating Committee of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon Basin (COICA), the Pan Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM), the Pan Amazonian Social Forum (FOSPA) and Amazon Watch.
